Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 8.58.32 AMMay 2017 saw bright skies, large crowds, and many new students in the Epworth-Mabvuku-Tafara district. The Minister of Sport and Recreation, the Provisional Education Director, and the District Administrator graced Domboramwari High School for the opening of its new basketball court and a ceremonial uniform handover for FAWEZI’s newest 42 beneficiaries.

Among the celebrations were a ribbon cutting and first basketball shots, entertainment, uniform and sanitary handover, speeches, the launch of FAWEZI’s STEM competition, and lunch. The uniform handover was directed at out of school girls from three campaigns: an education grant campaign supported be ‘Doenkers’, a sexual reproductive health rights and education programme supported by ‘Amplify Change’, and an effort to send young women back to school who had dropped out due to pregnancy or financial struggle, which has been funded but many individuals through the Global Giving crowd funding site.

All these girls came together yesterday to celebrate their renewed chance at education, the support of family, friends, the school, and the local government, and of course, the new school shoes.

FAWEZI could not have made this happen without the generous support of Doenkers VWZ, Amplify Change, and many individual Global Giving donors. The global giving campaign is still underway and the more money raised the more girls go to school! Click here to donate.
