Shaping Futures Through STEM: The Epworth High School Experience
Through the Transforming Adolescent Girls’ Opportunities through STEM (TAGO-STEM) project, FAWEZI, in partnership with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) and with support from UNICEF, has been working to expand opportunities for learners to explore and excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. One of the schools benefiting from this initiative is Epworth High School, where the project’s impact has been particularly inspiring.
A key element of the project has been the introduction of innovative resources such as the mobile laboratory, which provides learners with practical, hands-on experiences in science. For many students, this has transformed the way they view STEM—not just as subjects in a classroom, but as tools for problem-solving and real-world innovation.
Epworth High School has already earned recognition for its achievements. Earlier in the year, its learners were named STEMfair Champions, a title that reflects their creativity and determination to harness science for positive change. Their projects highlight the diverse possibilities that STEM education can unlock:
A glucose testing experiment addressing health challenges in practical, accessible ways.
A solar-powered remote-controlled lawn mower offering a sustainable approach to maintaining the school environment.
A custom public announcement system tailored to meet the needs of a growing school population.
Eco-friendly skincare products made from natural local ingredients such as sunflower oil and pomegranate zest, demonstrating how science can intersect with sustainability and entrepreneurship.
These innovations illustrate the power of providing girls with the tools and encouragement to dream, design, and lead. They also serve as a reminder that when communities invest in education, the results reach far beyond the classroom—improving livelihoods, fostering resilience, and inspiring a culture of innovation.
The TAGO-STEM project continues to show that with the right support, girls can stand at the forefront of the STEM revolution. Epworth High’s young innovators embody this vision, proving that the future of science and technology is not only inclusive but also brighter when every learner has the chance to participate fully.
➡️ Together, we are shaping a generation of trailblazers, innovators, and leaders.
