Driving Change Through Education: FAWEZI Strengthens Strategic Collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education
In a significant milestone for the advancement of equitable and transformative education in Zimbabwe, the Forum for African Women Educationalists Zimbabwe (FAWEZI), in partnership with the FAWE Regional Secretariat, convened a high-level strategic engagement with the Honourable Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Torerayi Moyo.
The meeting, which underscored FAWEZI’s continued commitment to influencing policy and practice in education, focused on key thematic areas, including the strengthening of foundational learning at community level, sustainable education financing, and the urgent need to prioritise continuous professional development (CPD) for educators across the country.
During the deliberations, Honourable Dr. Moyo commended FAWEZI for its role in enhancing the capacity of teachers through the implementation of progressive, gender-responsive, and transformative educational models. He acknowledged the pressing challenge faced by many educators, who, after completing their initial teacher training, have limited access to further professional development opportunities.
“FAWEZI is making a meaningful contribution towards closing this professional development gap. Your work in capacitating teachers not only strengthens the quality of classroom instruction but also empowers educators to become agents of change within their communities.” said Hon. Dr. Torerayi Moyo
This is a commendable expression of FAWE’s enduring philosophy, “Education for Change.”
The Honourable Minister also highlighted the strategic value of partnerships between government and civil society in realising the national vision for inclusive, accessible, and quality education. He noted that such collaborations are critical for enhancing learning outcomes, particularly in underserved areas where girls and other vulnerable learners face systemic barriers to education.
FAWEZI, through its various programmes, continues to advocate for the integration of gender equity, learner-centred methodologies, and psychosocial support within the national education system. Its initiatives in teacher training have equipped hundreds of educators with the tools and frameworks necessary to foster safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments.
This engagement marks a renewed commitment between FAWEZI and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to scale evidence-based practices that advance the rights and potential of every learner.
Moving forward, FAWEZI will continue to work alongside the Ministry to co-create sustainable solutions that promote professional excellence among teachers and strengthen the foundational pillars of Zimbabwe’s education system. FAWEZI affirms its dedication to building a resilient and inclusive education sector.
