From Learners to Leaders: FAWEZI Alumni Participates at Inaugural FAWE Alumni Convening in Kigali
Two trailblazing FAWEZI alumni, Wendy Muzite and Rutendo Chidemo, carried Zimbabwe’s voice to Kigali, Rwanda, for the inaugural FAWE Alumni Convening. Joining alumni from across 33 countries, they embodied the transformative journey from learners to leaders, and reaffirmed the collective commitment to shaping Africa’s educational future.
This historic gathering brought together alumni from 33 African countries, bound by a shared commitment to advancing the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) legacy. More than just a meeting, it was a celebration of impact, collaboration, and the enduring power of education to transform lives and communities.
A Platform for Connection and Purpose
The convening provided a vital space for alumni to:
✅ Reconnect and chart a collective way forward for the FAWE Alumni network
✅ Exchange knowledge and explore solutions to pressing regional challenges
✅ Strengthen professional networks across diverse fields and industries
✅ Gain inspiration from thought leaders and distinguished speakers
These conversations underscored the powerful role alumni continue to play in shaping Africa’s future, drawing from their journeys as learners who have now become leaders, mentors, and advocates.
Carrying Forward the FAWE Legacy
In her keynote reflections, Wendy Muzite captured the spirit of the convening with heartfelt words of gratitude and a rallying call to action:
“As alumni, we are the living testimony of FAWE’s mission, and it is upon us to give back, whether through our time, expertise, or resources. Let giving be our culture, a way of life that sustains our legacy and paves the way for generations to come. Together, we are stronger. Together, we are unstoppable. And together, we will continue to carry forward the FAWE vision of transforming lives through education.”
Her message reminded participants that beyond the convening, the true measure of the network lies in its ability to mobilize and remain steadfast in advancing education, empowering girls and young women, and transforming communities.
Zimbabwe’s Voice in a Continental Movement
The participation of FAWEZI alumni in Kigali highlighted Zimbabwe’s continued contribution to the continental FAWE movement. Both Wendy Muzite and Rutendo Chidemo embody the transformative impact of FAWE’s programs — from opening doors to education, to nurturing voices that now advocate for sustainable change at national, regional, and continental levels.
The inaugural FAWE Alumni Convening set the tone for what promises to be a dynamic and united alumni movement across Africa. With renewed energy and a strengthened network, FAWE alumni stand ready to ensure that the mission of advancing girls’ education and gender equality in education remains alive for generations to come.
From learners to leaders, the FAWE alumni community continues to demonstrate that education is not only a right — it is the key to transforming Africa’s future.
