Forum for African Women Educationalists Zimbabwe Chapter: International Women’s Day 2024 Statement
The Forum for African Women Educationalists Zimbabwe Chapter (FAWEZI) joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2024 under the theme: “Invest in Women: To Accelerate Progress.” This theme resonates with FAWEZI, whose work throughout the years has consistently strived to empower women and girls through education, advocacy, and capacity building. We recognize that gender equality is not just a moral imperative, but also a human rights issue and a key driver of progress. FAWEZI’s dedication to amplifying the voices of women and ensuring their equal access to education directly addresses the call for investment highlighted this year. Our initiatives with various partners, such as the Towards Resilient Communities with Health, Equity, and Safety for All (TORCHES), Girl Supporter, Data for Change: School-Related Gender-based Violence, and Transforming Adolescent Girls Opportunities through Science Technology, Education and Mathematics, actively empower women and girls with the knowledge and skills to navigate challenges and build a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their communities. FAWEZI’s ongoing efforts align with the key areas identified for collective action under this year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” • Ending poverty: FAWEZI recognizes the disproportionate impact of poverty on women and girls. We work to break the cycle of poverty through education, which empowers women to become economically independent and contribute meaningfully to their communities. This aligns with the global call to action to prevent millions of women and girls from falling into poverty by 2030. • Implementing Gender-Responsive financing: FAWEZI advocates for increased investment in education initiatives specifically targeted towards addressing barriers faced by girls and women. • Shifting to a green economy and care society: FAWEZI recognizes the need for a sustainable and equitable future that values and protects women’s contributions. We believe that investing in education is crucial for promoting a green economy and a caring society that prioritizes the well-being of all members of our communities. • Supporting feminist change-makers: FAWEZI acknowledges the critical role played by feminist organizations in advancing gender equality. We believe in the importance of strengthening the capacity of such organizations and advocating for increased funding to support their vital work. FAWEZI remains steadfast in its commitment to investing in women and girls through education. We believe that by empowering women, we can create a more just, equitable, and sustainable future for all. On this International Women’s Day, we urge all stakeholders to join us in investing in women and amplifying their voices as catalysts for positive change. Together, let us transform challenges into opportunities and shape a brighter future where women and girls thrive!
