About FAWEZI
The Forum for African Women Educationalists Zimbabwe (FAWEZI) is a non-governmental organisation established in 1998 to address gender disparities in education and promote educational opportunities for girls and women. FAWEZI is an affiliate of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), a Pan-African organisation committed to advancing gender equality and equity in education across Africa. As part of the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Programme, FAWEZI is inviting applications from qualified and passionate individuals to serve as Mentors for programme participants enrolled at partner tertiary institutions.
Purpose of the Mentorship Programme
The mentorship programme aims to provide academic, psychosocial, professional, and career development support to programme participants through structured mentorship relationships with experienced and trained mentors.
Objectives of the Mentorship Programme
The mentorship programme seeks to:
Provide psychosocial and academic support to students
Promote career guidance and leadership development
Strengthen students’ confidence, resilience, and decision-making skills
Provide positive role models for students
Support students to successfully transition through their education pathways
Partner Institutions
Mentors will support students enrolled at the following institutions:
Belvedere Technical Teachers College
Harare Polytechnic
Bulawayo Polytechnic
Mutare Polytechnic
Kwekwe Polytechnic
Gweru Polytechnic
Roles and Responsibilities of Mentors
Selected mentors will be expected to:
Provide guidance and support to assigned mentees
Conduct regular mentorship sessions (physical or virtual)
Support mentees in goal setting and personal development
Provide career guidance and educational advice
Identify challenges affecting mentees and refer them to relevant support services where necessary.
Maintain professional and ethical conduct
Submit mentorship reports to FAWEZI
Participate in mentorship orientation, training, and review meetings
Uphold safeguarding and child protection principles
Each mentor will be assigned at least five (5) mentees aligned to their professional field to ensure relevant technical and career guidance.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
Minimum of a Diploma or Degree qualification
At least 3–5 years of professional experience in a relevant STEM field
Demonstrated commitment to youth development and gender equality
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to guide and motivate young people
High level of integrity and professionalism
Willingness to volunteer time for mentorship activities
Ability to comply with safeguarding and child protection policies
No record of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) or child abuse allegations
Desirable Qualifications
Previous mentoring experience
Experience working with youth or students
Knowledge of education and career pathways
FAWEZI alumni, professionals working in STEM-related industry fields and individuals based within partner institutions are encouraged to apply
Training and Support
Successful mentors will participate in a Mentor Orientation and Training Programme covering:
Mentorship framework and manual
Roles and responsibilities
Communication and mentoring skills
Safeguarding and child protection
Reporting requirements
Duration of Engagement
The mentorship engagement will run for a period of one (1) year, renewable based on performance and programme needs.
