FAWEZI Leads Community-Led Campaigns to Advance Girls’ Education in Chipinge and Chitungwiza
The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Zimbabwe (FAWEZI), with support from UNICEF, led Community-Led Campaigns on Girls’ Education in Chipinge (Ward 29: Mahenye and Maparadze villages) and Chitungwiza (Ward 5: St Mary’s) under the RISE (Resilient, Innovative, Skilled & Empowered) Project.
Key messages were delivered by representatives from government ministries, including Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MWACSMED), Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE), Department of Social Development (DSD), National AIDS Council (NAC), and the Zimbabwe Republic Police Victim Friendly Unit (ZRP VFU). The campaign highlighted barriers affecting girls’ education, including early marriage, gaps in sexual and reproductive health information, safety concerns, and irregular school attendance.
To broaden reach, FAWEZI partnered with Vemuganga Community Radio and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Services (Radio Zimbabwe) to amplify campaign messaging through their platforms. Through interactive community dialogues and open discussions, participants explored practical strategies to strengthen support systems for girls and ensure their continued access to education.
The campaigns were well received by communities, promoting enhanced stakeholder coordination, increased community accountability, and amplified advocacy for girls’ rights.
FAWEZI reaffirms its commitment to working with communities to champion the rights of girls to quality education, ensuring that every girl can learn, thrive, and lead.
